What is Copart
Copart: a salvage auction with 40 years of history
Copart is an American company founded in 1982. It specialises in selling vehicles after accidents, floods, theft, or mechanical issues on behalf of insurance companies, fleet owners, and dealers. Over 100,000 lots are listed every week across the United States
Lot types on Copart
Clean Title
Vehicle with a clean history - no major damage, or successfully repaired. Lowest risk, higher auction price.
Salvage Title
The insurer declared the vehicle a total loss. Requires repair. The most popular lot type for import to Ukraine.
Rebuilt / Reconstructed
Former salvage that has been repaired and passed inspection. Road-legal in most US states.
Certificate of Destruction
Vehicle officially decommissioned - cannot be re-registered as a road vehicle. Parts-only.
How bidding works on Copart
Pre-bid
Submitted before the auction starts. The system automatically increases your bid on auction day up to your maximum limit.
Live Auction
Real-time online bidding. The vehicle goes to the highest bidder at the moment the lot closes.
Buy It Now
Fixed price, no bidding required. A rare format that lets you secure a lot immediately.
Why you cannot buy directly
Participating in Copart auctions requires a US dealer license, a US address, and payment in USD through a US bank account. Private individuals without a licence face significantly higher fees or are not permitted to bid at all.
Copart Fees
What Copart charges on top of the lot price
In addition to the winning bid, Copart charges several mandatory fees. The buyer fee is tiered and depends on the final sale price
Buyer Fee
The buyer fee is tiered by final sale price - ranging from $25–75 for lower-priced cars up to $375–450+ for vehicles over $10,000. RSAuto calculates the exact buyer fee for your specific lot before placing a bid
Current fee schedule on Copart's website →Copart may update fee schedules without notice. RSAuto verifies the current buyer fee for each lot before bidding.
